is a crowded
dance floor.
Moving out of time
all on your own,
with each
of your friends
tidily paired off
for the night.

Loneliness
is finding comfort
in a stranger’s hand
on the small of your back
as he passes you by.

Loneliness
is no longer
searching for
“I love you,”
but instead,
“You’ll do.”

Loneliness
is not crying
any more.

Loneliness
is binding up
the hurt
so that it can’t
prey
upon your heart.
